Old Dan Tucker

Old Dan Tucker
By 1843 this song was popular across the country.

Old Dan Tucker’s a fine old man,

Washed his face in a frying pan,
Combed his hair with a wagon wheel,
Died of a toothache in his heel.

Get out the way for old Dan Tucker,
He’s too late to have his supper,

Supper's over, and dinner's cookin',
But old Dan Tucker’s standin' there lookin'.

Old Dan Tucker’s comin' to town,
Ridin’ on a billygoat, leadin’ a hound,
Hound dog bark and the billygoat jump,
Landed Dan Tucker on top of a stump.
Get out the way for old Dan Tucker,
He’s too late to have his supper,

Supper's over, and dinner's cookin',
But old Dan Tucker’s standin' there lookin'.

Old Dan Tucker’s comin' to town,

Swingin’ the ladies round and round,
First to the right and then to the left
And then to the one that he loves the best.
Get out the way for old Dan Tucker,
He’s too late to have his supper,

Supper's over, and dinner's cookin',
But old Dan Tucker’s standin' there lookin’.
